10 Best Pokemon Go Tips for Beginners

Whether you are new to the Pokemon franchise or simply just new to Pokemon Go, here are 10 of the Best Tips all Pokemon Go Beginners should know. These tips include understanding Pokemon Types, Capturing, Evolution Strategies and more!

Build article by question user : Pokemon Go Release, Pokemon Go Gym, Pokemon Go Team, Pokemon Go Guide, Pokemon Go Tips andTricks, Pokemon Go Battle, Pokemon Go Updates, Pokemon go download.

New to Pokémon Go? Check out the Pokémon Go Beginner's Guide.

#1. Prepare Yourself!
Before even trying to download Pokemon Go, make sure to prepare yourself by doing some research on the game requirements. One thing you don’t want to do is get hyped for Pokemon Go, only to later find out that your device is not compatible or you don’t have enough data. Make sure to follow the three steps below before trying to download the Pokemon Go App.

Step 1. Make sure your device meets the Mobile Requirements and Specifications. This is step is critical for all Pokemon Go newcomers. If you can’t play the game, all other Tips are useless!

Step 2. Beginners should look into purchasing an extra Battery. Pokemon Go will drain a fully charged Phone after only a few hours of gameplay.

Step 3. Get a Mobile Data Plan. If you already have a Data Plan make sure to check out the Top Ways to Reduce Data Usage.

#2. Understand the Different Types of Pokemon
If you have played any other Pokemon games it is likely that you are familiar with at least some if not all of the different Pokemon Types. If you are completely new to the Pokemon franchise, there are a
total of 18 different Types of Pokemon. Each Type has strengths and weaknesses against certain other Types in battle. For example, Fire is strong against Grass, Grass is strong against Water and Water is strong against Fire.

Pokemon Beginner’s should familiarize themselves with all Pokemon Types to help provide that extra advantage in battle.

Pokemon Types

#3. Capture all Nearby Pokemon
Some new players may choose not to capture a nearby Pokemon for a variety of reasons. Some of reasons for avoiding Pokemon may include:

- Personal preference. Not all players love Magikarp...

- That particular species of Pokemon has already been captured.

- Player may be running low on Pokeballs. (May be a very legitimate reason, but standard Pokeballs are easy to obtain).
- Player may have too many of that Pokemon already.

However, before you decide to disregard a nearby Pokemon, take the following into consideration:
- Capturing Pokemon will reward you with XP. If it is your first time capturing a certain Pokemon you will get an added XP bonus.

- You will be credited with Candy for each Pokemon you capture. Even if you release the Pokemon, you still get credited with Candy. Assuming that the Pokemon has an Evolution Line.

Note: Getting enough Candy is very important in Pokemon Go. Evolved Pokemon are usually much more powerful than Wild Pokemon of the same species. For example, a Charmeleon evolved from a Charmander will be much stronger than a Charmeleon caught in the wild. Evolutions result in a substantial boost in CP.

#4. Know the Candy Requirements
Pokemon will have different Candy requirements in Pokemon Go. For example, Bulbasaur may need 25 Candy to evolve into Ivysaur, and Rattata may need 25 Candy to evolve into Raticate. Magikarp needs 400 Candy to evolve into Gyarados!

#5. Look for and Travel to Pokestops
This may already be common knowledge even among beginners, but visiting Pokestops in Pokemon Go is one of the best ways to obtain Pokeballs, Eggs and other items such as Potions and Revives. As you travel, make sure to pay close attention to your mini-map in order to find nearby Pokestops.

#6. Connect with Other Trainers
The Pokemon Go community is huge. Beginning players should team up with friends and teammates to learn new strategies, trade Pokemon, build up Gym defenses, etc. There are many different online platforms to connect with other Pokemon Go players.
Popular social media platforms to try include Reddit, Twitter, Facebook and Pokemon Go Forums. You can learn a lot about Pokemon Go and progress by playing solo, but connecting with and learning from others can significantly improve your game.

#7. Save Master Balls
This tip is very important for players just starting out. Using Master Balls on any common Pokemon (especially in the earlier stages of the game) is one of the biggest mistakes newbies can make. Master Balls are the most powerful (and rarest) Pokeballs in Pokemon Go. It can be tempting to use a Master Ball immediately after obtaining one, but the best thing you can do is save it in your inventory!
The main reason for saving Master Balls is to allow you to capture rare and powerful Pokemon later on. As you progress through the game, you will encounter much more powerful Pokemon that cannot be captured with a standard Pokeball or even Great Ball. If your Pokeballs are not strong enough you will be forced to leave that special Wild Pokemon behind.

On the other hand, if you end up saving all of your Master Balls you will be prepared once that evasive Mythical or Legendary Pokemon appears on your map!

#8. Keep Pokemon with Highest CP
Beginner’s may not know that Pokemon of the same species can have different CP levels. For example, one wild Rattata may have a CP of 60, while another may have 70 CP. When it comes time for evolution, you will want to evolve the Pokemon with the highest CP. This will ensure maximum CP potential of the final evolution stage.

Meowth CP Pokemon Go

#9. Evolve to Create the Most Powerful Pokemon
The majority of Evolved Pokemon will have greater CP than their Wild Pokemon Counterparts. For example, a wild Wartortle may have anywhere from 200 - 250 CP. If you were to obtain 25 Squirtle Candy and then evolve a Squirtle into a Wartortle that Wartortle may have 300 - 400 CP. Blastoise may have 1000+ CP when evolved from Wartortle! These numbers are not exact, but the main tip is that evolved Pokemon are stronger than Wild Pokemon.

My starter was Bulbasaur. Reasoning for the picture below!
Bulbasaur Ivysaur Venusaur

#10. Optimize Your Pokemon Team
Create the strongest Pokemon Team possible by improving your team’s strengths and minimizing your team’s weaknesses. This tip can be broken down into three categories.

Evolve: Evolutions are very important to increasing the CP of individual Pokemon, which ultimately helps to strengthen your overall team.

Pokemon Type Variety: The Pokemon on your team will have Type weaknesses, but the entire team should not share the same weaknesses. For example, a Pokemon team of a beginner may contain Grass, Ice & Bug Types; all of which are very susceptible to Fire damage. Instead, one or two Water Types should be added as replacements to balance out the Team. Mix and match the different Pokemon Types at your disposal to discover the optimal composition.

Choose the Best Pokemon Types: Not all Types are created equally. Some Pokemon Types are Super Effective against many Types, while others are very resistant against many Types. Attacks that deal reduced damage will show as Not Very Effective.

13 'Pokémon GO' tips and tricks everyone should know

"Pokémon GO" is here! We've been playing it non-stop since it launched on the iPhone App Store and Google Play last week. In our time with "Pokémon GO" so far, we've had gobs of fun — sure — but we also have truckloads of questions. And then we answered them.
But we had even more questions! Here are even more tips and tricks you should know to enjoy "Pokémon GO" as much as possible!

Tap the Pokémon to make them squeal!

Tap the Pokémon to make them squeal!

The Pokemon Company
You want to hear how your Pokémon sounds, right? Who doesn't? Tap the Pokéball at the bottom of the screen, select the Pokémon submenu, and select which Pokémon you want to hear. When their character screen comes up, tap on the Pokémon itself. If your volume isn't up, turn it up. Now you can hear 'em!

Curveballs!

Curveballs!

While capturing Pokémon, you may have seen an XP bonus on your capture that says "curveball." How'd THAT happen? Simple!
When you enter the Pokémon capture screen, instead of just flicking your ball forward you'll want to tap it and hold, then spin it around in a circle (several times) before flicking it toward the Pokémon. You'll know you're doing it right when the Pokéball gets a bit of a glimmer to it, like sparks are coming off the ball.

Getting better throws!

Getting better throws!

The Pokemon Company
You may also notice that, while catching Pokémon, you're occasionally getting a "Great throw" bonus. That's because you totally nailed the throw and hit the Pokémon with your Pokéball within the ever-shrinking yellow circle hover over the front of the Pokémon.
That's right: the yellow ring is more than just an idea of where to throw your Pokéball. It's specifically a target to nail to get a throw bonus!
(Note: With difficult to capture Pokémon, the ring will be orange or red — that's a visual indicator that you may want to use a Razzberry to make the Pokémon easier to capture.)

Razz Berries lull Pokémon into a false sense of security!

The Pokemon Company
If you're in the middle of a contentious Pokémon capture, and you've thrown Pokéball after Pokéball to no avail, you may want to throw said Pokémon a delicious raspberry (er, "Razz Berry").
You can buy Razz Berries with in-game money, but you also earn them from visiting Pokéstops pretty frequently. I currently have 21, have used a bunch, and never bought any. BEWARE: The Razz Berry will only make the Pokémon easier to capture for your next throw. Make it count!

So you want to incubate eggs but you don't want to walk...

So you want to incubate eggs but you don't want to walk...

The Pokemon Company
You've gotten some eggs at this point, no doubt. You may even have found them hidden in the Pokémon submenu (after clicking the Pokéball). Now that you've got those eggs incubating, it's time to start walking!
Ah, but you've got a car — not so fast Pokéfriend!
It's true that you'll need to cover a distance to get that egg incubated (anywhere from 2KM to 10KM), but you'll also need to do it under a relatively low speed. The game can tell that you're in a car, because people don't run much faster than 25MPH (and that's people like Usain Bolt, not you and me). Also, hey, don't play "Pokémon GO" while driving. Stop that.
This also rules out trains/buses/etc. But there is one method that's slightly easier than walking and a lot less dangerous than slowly driving around: biking. Get on your bicycle and get incubating!
(NOTE: You'll need to keep the app open and your phone screen on to have the distance you cover count for anything. Sorry!)

Save your battery! There's a battery saver setting within "Pokémon GO" that will help!

Save your battery! There's a battery saver setting within "Pokémon GO" that will help!

The Pokemon Company
As it turns out, walking around with your phone's screen on full blast is a great way to decimate your battery. "Pokémon GO" has a solution buried in its settings menu. Tap the Pokéball, select "Settings" in the upper right corner, then click "Battery Saver." Solved!

Save your battery even more seriously by flipping your phone!

Save your battery even more seriously by flipping your phone!

The screen gets real dark, just like this! The Pokemon Company
If you want to walk around with your phone in your pocket and still capture that sweet, sweet distance you'll need to incubate eggs (and hatch new Pokémon), simply set your phone's screen to never turn off and slide it into your pocket upside down.
If you've already got the game set to "Battery Saver" mode, the phone will register it's been flipped over and automatically dim the screen (like you see above). Magical!

Pokéstop modules attract Pokémon — if you see a Pokéstop "raining," it's got a module attached. Go there for more Pokémon than usual!

There are a lot of people making it rain near TI's headquarters in Manhattan's Flatiron district. The Pokemon Company
Having a hard time finding Pokémon? Take advantage of other people's good fortunes by going to a Pokéstop that has a "module" attached. These modules attract Pokémon to the stop for 30 minutes at a time. Better yet, they affect anyone walking by that Pokéstop. Nothing like scooping up some free Pokémon from someone else's item!

Track Pokémon!

Track Pokémon!

The Pokemon Company
If you open the Pokémon menu in the lower right, you'll notice that there are a handful of footprints beneath each Pokémon. You may also notice that one of the Pokémon silhouettes doesn't have any footprints, which means it's really close to you. If you tap that silhouette, the Pokémon will be revealed on your map! Voila!

Evolve your Pokémon first, then power them up!

Evolve your Pokémon first, then power them up!

My Pinsir is such a high level because I focused on evolving him and then powering him up. He's actually ready for even more right now!The Pokemon Company
Instead of powering up your un-evolved Pokémon, focus on evolving them into their final form first. They'll automatically become more powerful just from evolving, and you use the same stuff (candy, star dust) to power up that you do to evolve. Given that, you should focus your energy on evolving Pokémon first — the more resource-intensive of the two steps anyway — before powering up.

Collect all the low-level Pokémon, regardless of what level you are.

Multiple Pidgeottos just mean I can more easily evolve one into a Pidgeot! The Pokemon Company
Tired of catching the same Weedle over and over? I sympathize, but don't let your boredom get in the way of evolving and powering up your other Pokémon. The more Pokémon you collect, the more candy you'll earn for that type of Pokémon. And the more candy you have, the faster you can evolve and power up your Pokémon. And the more evolved/higher the power your Pokémon are, the better you'll do in gym battles!
Bonus: You'll get stardust every time you capture new Pokémon. And what's stardust used for? Evolving and powering up Pokémon.

Sort your Pokémon!

The Pokemon Company
When you tap the Pokéball and enter the Pokémon submenu, things can get disorganized quickly. Good news: There's a super easy way to organize it by a few different metrics.
Perhaps you'd like to organize it alphabetically, or by combat points? You totally can. Click the icon in the lower right hand corner of the main Pokémon menu and you'll find a few different ways of organizing your Pokémon. Convenient! Also, really helpful when you want to, say, decide which Pokémon you should power up (the one with the most CP already, obvz).

Use incense and a lucky egg at the same time to maximize efficiency!

Use incense and a lucky egg at the same time to maximize efficiency!

The Pokemon Company
If you get a Lucky egg, it allows you to earn double experience points for 30 minutes. Two easy ways to earn a lot of XP points are by catching or evolving Pokémon. Catching a new Pokémon gives you 100 XP. Evolving Pokémon gives you 500 XP. When you have the Lucky Egg in play, you'll gain 200 XP for any new captures and 1,000 XP for any evolution.
If you have a lot of Pokémon to evolve wait to do it until you have a Lucky Egg.
Why add the incense or lure modules? Those attract Pokémon for 30 minutes exactly. Time a Lucky Egg to go at the same time as a Pokémon lure and start watching the experience points roll in as Pokémon after Pokémon comes to you.

BONUS TIP: Get Pikachu as your starting Pokémon!!!

Like many people, I wish I had known that you can get Pikachu as your starter in Pokémon Go. When you first start the game you will see Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle near your Trainer. Most player's first instinct is to choose their favorite one immediately (Mine was).

However, if you want Pikachu as your starter follow these simple steps:

#1. Instead of tapping on one of these three, walk away from them.

#2. Keep walking away from them and you will see that they disappear and then reappear near your Trainer.  Do this four times.

#3. Once you have done this four times, continue walking and the fifth time Pikachu will pop up on your map along with the other three starter Pokémon.

#4. Tap on Pikachu to start the encounter and throw a Pokéball at the Pikachu to capture it.

#5. Congratulations you now have started Pokémon Go with a brand new Pikachu!

If you know anyone who may just be installing the game, share this with them before they choose their starter!

I hope these Pokemon Go Beginner Tips were helpful. If this article was helpful please share with other Pokemon Go Beginners that you know. If you have any tips of your own, please feel free to comment below.
